The background is from a watercolour by Durer, the trees from somewhere damp. As for the man himself, I met him on a bus. No kidding. He was disguised as a student and had left the ladder somewhere, but I immediately saw it was him, left a card, and asked if I could do some portraits.
One of the dangers of living in the same town as an illustrator, you just may end up with your face on books...
