Mythago Wood - sketch refused
Mythago Wood, by Robert Holdstock, is one of my absolute favorite fantasy novels.
This initial sketch was refused by the editor, who preferred something slightly less warlike and rather more feminine.
Okay, so the Urscumug crouching beneath a hoary oak hung with dead warriors and broken shields might not be everyone's idea of a romantic forest scene... I can take a hint.
