john,
there is far too much for me to say in a simple guestbook however i couldnt say nothing at all. as a fellow illustrator and conceptual designer, we all have many influences on our work. let me just say that yours has moved me to a place both stirring and motivating. i too am an avid tolkien fan(some say scarrily obsessed 😉 i have read all of his work that has been published and am eagerly awaiting the release of the children of hurin.my free time artistically is spent conceptualizing middle earth(pre 3rd and 4th ages)and your work has been supremely inspiring. with any luck i may someday be able to claim notariety as you do as not only a tolkien artist, but enthusiast. im sure that somewhere deep down, its indirect interactions like these that tolkien had in mind of inspiring. thank you for your passion and dedication to your work.(and for this amazing site) they continue you encourage people like me into believing that my dreams are possible.

Mr Howe, I found this website quite by accident when googling Patrick Leigh Fermor - like you I'm stuck at the Iron Gates waiting for the journey to begin again...

I then realised you are the same John Howe of Tolkein fame.

May I say how beautiful your writing is.

Bonjour John,

cordialement

Lucien

Mr. Howe, I'm a huge fan of your work, you're definetly my favorite Tolkien illustrator! 😀
It's impossible to define in words your drawings, it's just amazing.
I'm looking forward for an exposition of your work here, in Brazil!
And I hope one day I'll be able to draw like you!
By the way, great site! The pictures are very funny! Congratulations!!!
