Hello!!
I liked a lot the show in Geneva, unfortunately I couldn't be there on Sunday for the autographs since I'm from Rome and I was there on holiday!! 🙁 to make up for it I got the autographed poster, now I have to hang it in my room! 😀
The pictures are soooo much better seen "live" than on the pc screen... I spent a lot of time looking each one of them! A pity "Flight to the ford" wasn't there!
I hope I'll get the chance to see you soon in Rome with ALL your work!! 😀 😉

It was nice meeting you in Geneva, as you were here for the exhibiton "John Howe: The world of the Lord of the Rings".
And I was serious about a viking movie in ten years, when I finish film school and when I am (I hope) ready to direct some grand epic!
We could work together on it... (If you're still into movies that is)

All the best

Fabiano

Dear Mr. Howe ,
I find your drawings very impressing. My favorites are : Horesman in the night, all the drawings about the shire, descent to rivendell, pictures of rivendell and of the black riders. No wonder they hired you and alan lee for lord of the rings. You draw like a god !. I think your drawings help the people who are having trouble creating images of the landscapes etc while reading the books of LOTR .I'm a big fan myself and i have some friends who draw or make maquettes of lotr too.
Greetings,Karsten 😮

Dear Mr. Howe,
you just draw nearly exactly what I see in my mind reading "Lord of the Rings".
You really got the ability to fix in pictures what Tolkien fixed in words: a fiction that seems to be more real than any other fiction I know.
I'm deeply impressed.

Tim Pani

P.S: Definitely it's a pleasure to watch and listen to you and Alan Lee on the DVD of "Lord of the Rings"

I've always loved your stuff. I feel proud that you're from Vancouver too - a fellow Canadian!
I feel Winter of the Raven is one of your best...
Thanks.

Helloooooooo John. Among other things, BAG END really hit the spot. I think about it whenever I'm in the dentist chair, final exam, or heavy traffic; truly my "happy place".

I must say i'm very impressed with your art, being a HUGE lord of the rings fan myself I found myself looking at page after page. You have an amazing gift, you do a very good job at bringing these pictures to life. I'm not sure if you do stuff for bands, but I actually play in a metal band called Wraiths on Wings and I was wondering if did that kind of art...

😉 hey hey mister Howe! just a litle message to you with the same litle voice you've already heard in a movie theater in Mons, Belgium when I've asked you a question! I just want to say thanks so much for listening a young artist who would hope to walk on the same path as yours!! that was so great to have the chance to talk to you and it pushes me again to do what i really want to!!!
THANX AGAIN.

p.-s: now...I'm waiting for "Narnia"...

how can I explain this. john you are the greatest drawer and artist I have never known. I am proud to be Swiss because of you and you did a extremly great job in all these drawings for the lord of the rings. I had the opportunity to meet you in geneva at the "salon du livre" a few years ago and the drawings you gave me is wonderful. I clap your job and I am looking for your drawings for the chronicles of narnia. blessings. and sorry for my english, I speak usually french.

I've visited this website a lot of times, but was always looking at the artwork. This time, for no particular reason, I decided to pay attention to the texts. I couldn't stop laughing. I already had great respect for your artwork, but you're just as funny a writer as you are a visual poet. If ever you lose both hands in a horribly gruesome accident, you can always consider the possibility of a one-man show.;-)
Cheers.

WOW!!! I found John Howe's art site! Holy cow!!!

I was just cruizin' some of your images and I am always amazed at your art. I have some book with covers you illustrated and I always find myself staring at them for at least a few minutes each time I go to read the books.

I was thinking about that 'Dragon's Curse' pic.... why don't you do your favourite of the sketches for yourself, for fun? Maybe you don't have that kind of time, but if you ever do, at least it's an idea. The first image you described of it where he'd already run himself through sounds like an interesting, if bloody, image. I'd like to see it... (Great now I sound like I like violent images... well they are cool some times...)

I am going to continue cruizing the site now... 😀 I just love your art!!

howdy there partner!! i stumbled across this site while looking for Sour Ron on google. i have made it my mission to track down this evil dark lord that terrorises the little people of Hobbytown - he sounds like a guy we have on Earth that i havent yet bothered to find. Anyways, i digress; cool pictures man!! Too many words make my brain fuzzy! Peace Out! 😀

Thank you so much for sharing your Tolkien artwork online. Hard to explain how it makes one feel to gaze upon them..... it's like drinking a rich silken elixer, only through the eyes, not the mouth. Blessings.

I would highly commend your work, but that's been more than adquately done here and I don't want to be boring. Nonetheless congratualtions on your work, a tremendous thankyou if you ever get bored enough to read this from me  , and an extra commendation for assuring that the Lord of the Rings films look EXACTLY like everyone expected. If Tolkien made middle earth a fantasy, you made it real.
