Thank you Sir Howe, for your continued years of dedications and contribution to the both the fantasy movie industry and to fantasy world-building as a whole. Your constant undying effort to produce works of such connective power brings all us fans closer together.

Dear Sir Howe,

I was the nervous, quiet girl in the blue shirt at Fantasy Basel. You took a picture with me and the crowd behind at that moment. You drew Gandalf for my boyfriend and I wanted to let you know that you made me - and surely him once I surprise him with it on his birthday - very happy with that! I had quite the journey to get there and in the end it was all worth it. Your art is extraordinary and each time I look at any piece, it makes me want to start drawing again.

Thank you and best regards,

Sofia Livia C.

Bonjour John,

Claude.

Dear Mr Howe,

I've always loved and admired your work, as I grew up with your illustrations and paintings. Your work has feed my imagination, through a magic and fantasy world in which I could rest whenever I needed to.

In fact, I have a tattoo project in 2 weeks (realized by the talented Hongdam Studio in Seoul) inspired by "Descent into Rivendell" : it wouldn't be a copy of the illustration but more of a wink.
But, as certains elements might be recognizable, I prefer to ask your permission.

This would mean so much to me, I hope you will find the time to answer back.

Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Audrey

Good day John, I had written you once before, it was some time ago. In fact it was about 19 years ago. I was going through a hard time at that time of writing you, and I never really expected anything back. But you took the time out of your busy day to respond, and I thank you for that. You don't know how much that meant to me. Thank you so much. I am doing so much better now and in a better place. I have the letter you wrote me hanging on my wall I pass it everyday. I just wanted you to know how much that letter meant to me. Thank you for all the kind words. Take care of yourself and be safe in your journeys.

Hi John, I love your work, it has been an important part of reading Tolkien to me since I first read your illustrated edition of The Hobbit in 2000. I just wanted to ask if you know where or if I can get my hands on an edition of the Silmarillion illustrated (or cover illustrated) by you? I've looked everywhere and can't find any. If you could help, I would be overjoyed!
Yours, Gary Watson.

Dear Mr Howe,

I just wanted to thank you for one particular painting of yours, (though i love much of your work), it is the cover to the Fellowship of the Ring, back in 1993 or so. It has Gandalf and Frodo on rocky ground, just above a raging river, with a castle in the distance.

Every time i see it, i am reminded of the magic and excitement i felt on first reading the Lord of the Rings, it's a really fond memory for me.

Thank you 🙂

Dear Mr. Howe,

I've tried to locate Alan Lee's contact info, with bad success. I was wondering if you know his whereabouts. I have an original pencil drawing by Mr. Alan Lee, and I'd like to verify it from himself.

All the Best,

Dear Mr. Howe,

Seven years ago, I sent you a bit of fan-mail requesting that you do illustrations for a novel that I was working on at the time. I was in high school at the time. You probably don't remember, but still, your encouraging reply inspired to me to stick with the craft for this day. To the point where I am now a published author. Thank you for believing in me, because that kind of reply can begin to turn an amateur into a professional. If you'd like a free eBook of my work, please, let me know through eMail.

Thank You,
Fallon O'Neill

Bonjour Monsieur Howe,

Dear Mr. Howe,

I wanted to thank you for the speech you gave yesterday (Sept. 6th) at Fribourg University.
First, it allowed me to gain unprecedented insight in movie production, which is a world that fascinates me.

Thank you, dear Mr. Howe, for your words and your work, which I admire deeply, and which is often a source of inspiration for me.

Dear John,

Would it be possible to reproduce your illustration of Mythago Wood http://www.john-howe.com/portfolio/gallery/details.php?image_id=1025 in an upcoming journal of articles inspired by Mythago Wood?
