Few years ago, I've stumbled upon a children's book at a local library and was immediately drawn to your paintings; thus I took the book out to study the artwork. There is one painting of a tired knight sitting under an Oak tree and I've been mesmerized by it since. Unfortunately, I never memorized the book's title nor name of author or ISBN; none of the librarian or even other bookstores knew what John Howe's painting I was talking about. It's been a quest of my own ever since to find this dragon book... with the painting of "The Quest of the Fair Unknown". I promised myself to buy a poster of it someday to place in my living room. I only wish to decorate my home with magical items and this is one of them. Thank you for the inspirational, life affirming and healing art work. It's one of the few things that moves me to tears.
With much gratitude,
RaVen

To whom it might concern.

In the subtexts of "The Maps of Tolkien's ..." John Howe ascertain us readers that all drawings and paintings are of his origin, and that he has both the legal and moral right to them.
Slightly surprised, hence, I was to find the - in Sweden - very well known painting called "The Cloud" reproduced in the authors name. This lovely painting hangs at "Valdermarsudde" in Stockholm, and was made by Prince Eugen, a brother of the late King of Sweden, Gustaf V.

So, how did you come to know of "The Cloud", and how on Earth did you think this would pass unnotised?

Your website is wonderful. Your work is beautiful. It is excellent to have all of your artwork in one place rather than having to dredge the depths of Google to find some of my favourites. Thanks!

Hi John,

I would like to thank you for giving me the permission to use your artwork for my private homepage. I have to do it this way because all my e-mails didn't reach you - your contact-mailaddress doesn't work anymore (maybe just for me).

Anyway, thank you & my best wishes.

I just borrowed a book that you illustrated, "A Diversity of Dragons", and I was very inspired by your artwork. I am an amateur artist, and I find your compositonal style and view of dragons close to my own. I was reminded that I might someday do fine things with my talent. Thank you, and I admire your artwork!
