Your work is a catalyst for my own dreams... What starts out as an attempt to politely copy and practice takes on a life of it's own, individual, different, like a child of a loving parent. Thank You. Bakeka

Hello from Canada!

Always a great admirer of your work, I came across something very funny today...

Tell me, mr. Howe, if you recognize the spider on the cover of this album? 😀

Heehee, I like metal, but I'll be the first to admit that most bands are not the most original.;)

John Howe,

I would like to thank you for what you've done... Your paintings can inspire people to read Tolkien, and that's a good thing! I am Russian myself, and a really serious fan of Tolkien. I think you have caught the meaning of Tolkien's books in your paintings. I personally think that the Galadriel of yours is the best image of Galadriel ever .

Thank you for everything.

Anna.

John Howe,
I just wanted to take the time to let you know that I am one more admirer and person who had their direction in life altered by your work and vision. I had just about given up on the dream of being an illustrator. The market is never a kind or well recieving place for anyone, anywhere... BUT, I know that I have you and your colleague, Alan Lee, to thank in a sort of indirect way for keeping me going...
I own the extended edtion of the Fellowship and found myself often rewatching the appendices mush more than I did the actual movie itself... watching the joy, work ethic, and commraderie that the two of you showed in your work on the trilogy and the influences on the Weta art dept kept me going and believing in myself. I am a avid visitor of this site and the e-mails that chronicle your views on the absurdities and normalicies of the daily grind of life are a bright point in my day when I recieve them. Thank you so much for sharing your art and talent... I appreciate it, and someday, I hope to follow in your steps...
Sincerely- Mario Mora

John Howe,

Darn, John, I was totally surprised to visit your place and find I had such a good time. I loved reading about your books...and I must tell you I wanted everyone to read what you said about them. I think I understand, since books have been my "drug-of-choice" for a lifetime(which reminds me of a joke...friend asked me if I had lived in the hills all my life...of course I said: "Not yet.").

Anyway, I have appreciated your art from the first time I saw your work. I've long associated you with Tolkien's masterpiece(s), having read it the first time in bootleg copies when I was in college here in the states. That was 40 years ago(whew!)...you came along with your vision of his world a little later, but I noticed. What you see in Middle Earth I think I saw, too. Funny how some artists appeal to what you had envisioned when reading a book. Maybe I should be too old to still enjoy fantasy, but halefar, like most men I still feel 14 in my head.

Well, this is my first ever fan letter in my life, but I did want you to know I appreciated your work. But, mostly I wanted to say I really enjoyed the writing. You do good, John Howe.

I just wanted to say how much you have inspired me to create my own fantasy art. I look at your Myth and Magic book all the time. Your work is undoubtly the benchmark all aspiring artists endeavour to attain, myself included.
All the best, Steve

I'm just going to jump on the train with all the people who have so far told you what a great artist you are and thank you for bringing LOTR to life. 😀
I always really enjoy watching the Special Edition stuff on the Extended DVDs that shows the work you and Alan Lee have done for the movies.

Take care

John Howe: Have you ever considered being a comedian?? Seriously, everytime I read your stuff in this website it's just very funny. Plus what I like from you is that you show us that after all you're human and bad things can happen to you! hahah
Thank you for all you've done for us the Lord of the Rings fans!

You're a true artist indeed!

Hello John

Wonderful website, beautiful work.
What more could I say? Loads, but I'll start to babble, and it won't make sense.
I'm gonna grow up to be just like you...
(well, a female version anyway?)
