Mr. Howe,

Hi! I would like to say this, Mr Howe, your work is amazing and I cannot tell you how much reality it has, to me it bounces off the screen at me, it brings the Middle-Earth in the books to life!
I am in my last year at school and I am doing Lord Of The Rings as my Art coursework project, a third to do with the musical connections, a third just out of my personal interest in the trilogy and the other third in the Art and I have been searching for info on the illustrators and I have found you, well, my Art teacher did
Thank you sooo much for bringing this trilogy to life and I'll be sure to print off some pics and stick them in my art book, as well as some info on you and Alan Lee is it? hope so!

Wish me luck for my final exam!! bye,

yours, Dana aged 16 x

I much admire your work. Your pictures display the beauty of what I think Tolkien intended Middle Earth to be- in a way a pure, long lost world that we can but dream about experiencing other than in our own minds. So it's good that a skilled artist like you can display a bit of the legend and the beauty on paper.

Keep up the good work 🙂

i have been a great fan of john howes work ever since i was a kid. it was a great source of inspiration to see the extended editoin of the lord of the rings and hear him talk about hes work. but i think there is a great lag of drawings and designs from the moovie on hes home homepage. it would be really nice to see some of that. im sure he must have made hundreds of drawings for the moovie. its not that im getting tired of hes other work, its just that i feel that i have seen it so many times and it would be really nice to something new. like the drawings he made for the dark tower for the moovie. they where some of the best stuff i have ever seen him do, i was just blow off my feet by it.

Hello!

Umbriel

In my opinion your work reflects the atmosphere of Tolkien's works the best. I really admire your paintings. And it is not your fault that Peter Jackson is not the person to make films of any books by Tolkien... I might be wrong, but I think that if you had made the films, they would have been really great. Pity.

Best wishes,
Zoltan

Are you going to work on Kong with Jackson? If you do, don't forget about the notarium/scapula in pteranodons. (Or in the "plausible" Smaug!)

Cheers,
Rick

MR. John

Thank you for your wonderful designs. You are my favorite illustrator (Escher is a close 2nd). We have a signed Avalon, Isle of Apples poster of yours that we purchased in Annapolis MD years ago that hangs over our fireplace. If I had a brain I would have bought the original. Do you ever do shows in the USA?

Peace and long life to you.

Hello John
Your job about middle earth is the best job i ever seen.
Im a fan of Lothr and I use to draw some of the scenes I read and your pictures were ever a great inspiration for me, I can see the DVD of Lothr were you explain how much you work for this film And I think that Alan and you were totally necessary to make this world real for us.
I hope that you forward my e-mail.
My best greetings for your job

Your artwork totally amazes me! You've somehow managed to bring the images we all create in our minds to paper, with utter perfection. You've given us visuals of middle earth that are better than anyone could ever imagine!

Each year I read the lord of the rings again and each time I discover something new.
Your work helped me to vizualize certain things i've read in the book. Sometimes it was quite impressif to see the artwork from Alan and you.
Thank you
