Mr Howe,

I just wanted to thank you. Your art has filled my heart since I was a child, and seeing it brought to life in LOTR brought tears to my eyes. I am a moderator on a Facebook page called Middle-earth: Legends of Endórë, where we share your art and celebrate what you have brought into our lives. Again, thank you!

Dear Mr. Howe,

The Lord of the Rings trilogy has been an integral part of our growing up years, and now, as adults, we still find ourselves being crazy fans. We couldn't thank you enough for rendering the beautiful illustrations that have come to define not just the LOTR series, but The Hobbit, Clash of Kings, and numerous other works too.

The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is one of the most prestigious institutions in India, with a huge student population. Many of the students are budding designers, illustrators, script writers, actors and television enthusiasts, and want to make it big in the industry in the future. Hence, it is our greatest dream to have you address us and interact with us, and to draw inspiration from you. We'd love to know about your story - in the TV industry, and outside of it.

This is to invite you to deliver a talk at The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli’s 42-year-old annual cultural festival, Festember, held in the last week of September. Having been declared one of the Best College Cultural festivals in India, we have been sponsored by Adobe, Coca-Cola, and the like, and have a turnout of more than 15,000 students from all across India and beyond.

We would love to send you our extensive e-mail invitation with futher details, but we don't seem to be able to find your e-mail address anywhere on the internet. It would be great if you could let us know the same on guestlectures.festember@gmail.com

Thankyou so much!

Hello from finland.
Saw your fan made card "arven" on the bgg's wotr sub.
I have to say i printed the card and added to my game. Its so great. I love your idea what arven brings to game and i 5 times i have played wotr so far everytime we play your card on the game. It just needs its own figure tho ! For some reason i got 2 galadrie figures on my Lotme expansion so the second one acts like as arven ;).
Looked your other artwork also. Cool stuff. Keep it up.

WOW, is all I can say!!! I bought a copy of fantasy art workshop at the weta cave in Wellington, just had to flip through it and realized that this is exactly how I want to paint. Never tried watercolour before and just finished my first painting. Thank you for opening my eyes to other ways of painting. I am very proud of my first and happy I found the appropriate medium to my visions. You are an inspiration to all that imagine with their heart and look beyond the norm. Again thanks, love and bless.

Pouvez vous me contacter ? Mille mercis.

Dear John-
You are an inspiration. When I grow up I want to be a concept artist for video games or film, and I constantly find new inspiration from artists like you.

Dear John - as the UK ebooks of The Tears of Artamon are made available, I wanted to thank you once more for the amazing artwork that you have done for the covers. It's really a wonderful opportunity to see the back covers too without all the text.

All three covers are gorgeous but for me the front and back art for 'Prisoner of the Iron Tower' will always be my favourites (it was the book I enjoyed writing the most out of the three, too). You really capture the right elements and the brooding gothic atmosphere I was hoping to evoke! I'd love to link to your Portfolio - and maybe do a post on the website featuring the cover art? All best wishes, Sarah

Hi John,

While updating today on Amazon to make sure pre-orders and such were in good order I noticed a new entry for you. A Middle-earth Traveller for release in October 2017. Any news on this yet?

All the best for Christmas and beyond.

Hello John. Your work with Alan Lee and the fantastic trio of Pete, Fran and Philippa inspires me beyond words. Artists are a gift to mankind, they bridge the gap between things we know and those we dream of. thank you!

Mr. Howe,
I have been a fan of the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and the Arthurian legend for a good deal of my life. I have found you truly capture the images of the orcs, goblins, elves, and men in these books as I had envisioned them. I have a drawing of yours that was done back in 1979 that depicts a narrow road leading to a castle on a mountain. If you would like a photograph of it please let me know and I would be happy to send it to you. In closing thanks again for all your great illustrative work that made these books come to life.

Hi John 🙂
My parents and I have recently been watching the Hobbit behind the scenes/special features and admire the work you have done on the films.

My Dad and I were curious to what grade pencil you do your initial sketches in?

Thanks 🙂
