Dear Sir, just wanted to say Merry Christmas and to congratulate you and your colleagues on the Art and Design Chronicles of the Battle of the Five Armies book. It's really beautiful, and in my opinion, the best of the three by far.

May your future projects be as successful as your immensely valuable contribution to our visualization of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth!

I've been lurking on your website for some months now and I've finally mustered up the courage to leave a message.

You have completely blown me away not only with your art, but with your personality as well (deadpan humor, sword craze, wheezy voice, and all)!

So glad am I to see you standing all knobbly-kneed 😉 bringing fantasy art to new heights!

How I wish I could meet you in person and shake your hand!

You are a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

-Noelle

PS Are you sure you're not some reincarnation of a medieval knight? 🙂

Dear John Howe, I would like to congratulate you on all of your hard work on the lord of the rings trilogy and The Hobbit also. The middle earth that you have shown in your illustrations,Tolkien would be proud off. Your books forging dragons and Myth&Magic have been a big influence and help in my own art work. I would just like to say thank you for the middle earth we could only have dreamed off.

Hi John!
I recently attended the world premiere of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, and I was sad I did not get a chance to thank you in person. So this is my thank you. I am trying to get it around so that the whole production team sees it. It's not too long, I promise, and please don't judge my artwork too harshly 🙂 I scrambled it together last minute:

Hello, I love all your artwork. I recently bought a new phone ans I would like to ask your permission to use one of your pieces of artwork as a custom decal. I do not work for the decal site nor would I be making a profit off of this in anyway. The site that makes the custom decals allows you to upload an image, but I need your consent if they are to make the skin. Here is the link to the website:

Thank you.

I went to England recently and I found this book "Myth & Magic, the art of John Howe, designer for the hobbitfilms". I bought it because I love fantasyart and lotr, little did I know that this man, John Howe, would make such an impact on me. I couldn't lay down the book. I also found that the bookcovers of my own copies of Tolkien's trilogy were done by you. I've been searching all over the internet for these bookcovers, wanting to know who did them and getting highresulation copies of them. But I never found anything. I've even tried to draw the cover of the first book, which I now, after reading the book with your art, know is called "Black Riders in the Shire". I have it as my desktop background now.
I just wanted to say that your drawings are the best, they really take you away to another world. Thanks for being awesome... Cheers

Dear John,

Your work is inspirational. Just want to say thank you. It makes me feel alive. I'll buy a book without knowing what it's about if I see you illustrated it. I've been a big fan for years!

All the best,
Lauren

Just yesterday I found my copy of A Diversity of Dragons. My wife was there with me and said the sound I made was one of a child re-discovering his favorite toy. That is about how I felt as I lifted the old tote bag and there it was. I had been searching for literally years. Seems I had moved somethings out of our bedroom, only god knows how long ago, and had put them in the garage for safe storing. It was in among some old magazines from the '90s, a book on Native Americans and one Marlboro tote on top of the lot. I'm still smiling from ear to ear at how fortunate I am to have this wonderful collection from you and Anne, may she rest in peace.
Just wanted to let you know you have another older big kid as a fan!!! peace, Riley, Orangevale,Ca

It's all your fault !
Well, partially.
Yours and Tom Bakers.

I was six years old and suddenly became fascinated with Tolkien art and Dr Who.

I became obsessed with drawing and writing stories...I can still draw Tom Bakers face accurately without using reference...and I still remember the hair raising thrill I felt when I saw your illustration of Smaug destroying Dale.

I was set on a lifetimes course of drawing and writing that has both delighted and frustrated me ever since.

It's your fault and I can't thank you enough.

Mr. Howe: my sister and i are fans of The Lord of the Rings and we love your drawings of the Middle Earth. How do you do for imagine and draw so good the concept of the books? Because when we read the books and we imagine the Middle Earth, we are watching a drawing yours. You are a genius with the pencil and paper. Thanks! Juli and Clara 🙂
