OUT & ABOUT IN MIDDLE-EARTH
Or Any Excuse is a Good Excuse
This year is homeboy year – I’m writing this because I know my agent, bless her, reads my newsletters just in case there are signs of undue dilettantism and unreasonable sloth – as I have a good deal of work to be done over a long period and must get cracking on it.
However, sallying forth from hearth and home is possible occasionally, but I must have a good excuse. Grocery shopping is valid, but not very satisfying culturally or particularly exotic; exhibitions are better.
The next one will be in France, near Lyon, at the mediatheque of Bourgoin-Jallieu.
All the dates are on the lovely brochure they have done for the show.

CATCHING UP
Am currently conducting an all-out siege on the stack of mail that I have let pile up for literally ages. This means a number of former students will receive totally useless questionnaires for school reports, dutifully filled out, but 18 months late and replies to urgent questions coming long after they’ve become irrelevant. Also to be anticipated, a slew of letters with return-to-sender stamped on them, as people will have had time to move twice since they wrote.
All this to stop my conscience from nagging so peristently. (It’s true that exhaustion and resignation were setting in, and one’s conscience deserves better tretment, you never know when it may come in handy.)
I am now on a rhythm of half a dozen replies per day, and should be done inside of a month or so.
I’ll do my best not to let it happen again – a promise I make with startling regularly every couple of years…
