2005.06.24 - Ischia
Minas Tirith with a martime air...
Castello Aragonese was once home to several thousand inhabitants of Ischia, who, fearing nocturnal pirate raids, would retreat behind the ramparts and draw closed the gates until morning would let them return to their fields and crops.
Now they have rather less to fear, as nocturnal raids by tourists are rather less fearful.
Nonetheless, we retreated there at night - the hotel was just behind the dome of the church.
I'll dig up and post more photos of the festival itself.
