Original sketch done for the weathervane. The little pyramid with the line through it is the alchemical symbol for air, of course.
The word alchemy, by the way, if you'll forgive me for a fleeting pedantic moment, is from late Middle English, via Old French and medieval Latin from Arabic alkīmiyā ', from al ‘the’ + kīmiyā ' (from Greek khēmia, khēmeia ‘art of transmuting metals’ ).
Not that this lends any more weight or interest to my borrowing it for purely graphic ends, but I had been wishing for so long to actually use something from all those books of esoteric symbols that have accumulated on my shelves...
