Still life
1979

Complete with the cheesy burned-parchment look... I did draw the skul from life ( err... well, in a manner of speaking) though...
One of my professors had a skull that had been in his family since the 18th century or so, with all the different zones - love, folly, murder (!) poetry, etc. - marked off on it. I borrowed it at one point and did dozens of sketches.
As for the paper itself, I discovered a stack of it in the attic of the old house where I was renting a room at the time. It dates from the middle 1800's, and as far as I can tell, it is page after pages of notes by a student in pharmacology. Probably priceless - until I got my hands on them, that is...
But, I have done better than that - or worse... a few years ago, I scraped the ink off a piece of parchment I'd picked up in a junk shop, to have parchment to try a little egg tempera on. Of course it was only when I got to the end of my diligent scraping, I noticed the date: 1631.
Oops.
